  1. Season is indicated by calendar week and models include either a linear (first model β = 0.0003 ± 0.0008, t = 0.4, p = 0.69) or a spline smooth, s(week), of season together with a fixed effect indicating side of country (East/West) either as an intercept (‘+’) or interaction (‘:’). The table gives the estimated degrees of freedom of the smooth (together with a test of whether this is different from 0) and the model AIC (expressed as the difference from the linear null model).
