Nitric oxide levels in supernatants of microglia-parasite co-cultures. Microglia were maintained in culture alone or together with trypanosomes at a 1:30 ratio, unless otherwise specified. After indicated time points, supernatants were collected and prepared for nitric oxide determination using the Total Nitric Oxide Assay from R&D Systems and following the manufacture’s recommendations. Total nitrite concentration was normalized to that obtained for microglia alone to achieve fold increase in each case. ns: not statistically significant. MG: microglia. Tryp: Trypanosomes.
