Double immunofluorescent studies identified five types of p53-binding protein 1 expression pattern (green). These were observed in the absence (a–e) or presence (f–j) of Ki-67 expression (red). (a,f) stable type with little nuclear 53BP1. (b,g) low DNA damage response type with one or two discrete nuclear 53BP1 foci. (c,h) high DNA damage response type with three or more discrete nuclear 53BP1 foci. (d,i) diffuse type with heterogeneous and brightly diffuse nuclear staining of 53BP1. E and J: large foci type with discrete nuclear foci measuring ≥1 µm. The scale bars indicate 2 µm.
