From: Identifying chondroprotective diet-derived bioactives and investigating their synergism

IL-1-induced MMP13 gene expression in human primary articular chondrocytes. Four selected bioactives (a) sulforaphane (SFN), (b) apigenin (API), (c) isoliquiritigenin (ISO), (d) luteolin (LUT) were titrated against IL-1 treatment (5 ng/ml) in at least three independent isolates of human primary articular chondrocytes (n = 3) each performed in triplicate, for 6 h to establish a dose response. MMP13 mRNA expression was measured using RT-qPCR and normalised to 18S. Data is expressed as mean fold change (FC) ± SEM. One-way ANOVA, and all treatments were compared to IL-1 treatment with Dunnett’s post-test. Statistical significance is shown as *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001, ****p = 0.0001.
