Analysis of the growth and cell morphology of a ΔyvcK mutant following the deletion of genes coding for LTA synthases. (A) Growth curves. B. subtilis strains WT168 (black triangle), ΔyvcK (grey square), ΔyfnI (dark grey diamond) and ΔyvcK ΔyfnI (white circle) were grown at 37 °C in CE minimum medium supplemented with 0.5% gluconate and OD600 was measured hourly. (B) Morphology analysis. Images of strains described in (A) were taken after 6 hours of growth using a Zeiss Upright Axio Imager M2 microscope. (C) Morphology analysis of other LTA synthases mutant strains. The strains ΔltaS, ΔyvcK ΔltaS, ΔyqgS, ΔyvcK ΔyqgS, ΔyvgJ and ΔyvcK ΔyvgJ were grown at 37 °C in CE minimal medium supplemented with 0.5% gluconate and microscopy images were taken after 6 hours of growth.
