Lower oleic acid accumulation and incorporation into lipids in myotubes from athletic subjects. Satellite cells isolated from biopsies from musculus vastus lateralis from athletic and sedentary subjects were cultured and differentiated into myotubes. (a) Fatty acid accumulation of [14C]oleic acid (100 µM) during the last 24 h of the differentiation period was measured with SPA. (b) Myotubes were treated with [14C]oleic acid (100 µM) for 24 h, and lipids were thereafter extracted from the cells, separated by TLC and quantified by liquid scintillation.
