Principle of SAM in sound speed mode. Reflections from front and rear sides of the tissue are compared to measure the thickness of the tissue, sound speed and attenuation within the sample. Ss is the signal reflected from the rear surface of the target, Sd is the signal reflected from the rear surface of the target and Sref is the reflected signal from the substrate.
