Contour maps show SST and rainfall anomalies in July-November of the IOD event (1994). Boxes mark the eastern and western regions used for calculation the Dipole mode index. Our coral sampling site (star) is shown. SST and precipitation anomalies data were obtained from AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer39) and CAMS_OPI (Climate Anomaly Monitoring System and OLR Precipitation Index40), respectively. Contour maps were generated using IRI data library (http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu).
