From: Land carbon models underestimate the severity and duration of drought’s impact on plant productivity

Spatial maps of the model mean NPP anomalies. Anomalies are defined as the difference from the climate-normal NPP of each grid cell (the average NPP across years in which −1 ≤ CWD ≤ 1). NPP anomalies correspond to (a) the drought year, (b) one year post-drought, and (c) two years post-drought. Grey areas indicate pixels that experienced no drought events or that were excluded from analysis (outside spatial bounds, unforested grid cells).
