Genetic distances, in substitutions per site, calculated using the TN93 substitution matrix with sitewise rate variation modelled using a gamma distribution (shape parameter = 0.6868), between EV-A71 sub-genotypes, coxsackie virus CV-A16 (their nearest non-EV-A71 relative in Enterovirus A) and baboon A13, the outlier within Enterovirus A (see Fig. 1). The upper inset table shows the mean genetic distance within genotypes B and C, and the lower inset table shows the mean genetic distances between genotypes.
