Skeletal Muscle Morphology. (A) Exercise trained groups demonstrated a significant increase in gastroc-sol cross-sectional area (CSA). (B) An overall shift in myofibre distribution is observed following diet and exercise. Specifically, a decrease in the frequency of smaller-sized myofibres is observed in HF mice compared to CON, while an increase in the number of larger fibres was identified in HF (compared to CON) and EX (compared to SED, p = 0.06 and p = 0.09). (C) Myonuclei per fibre was significantly increased in HF-EX, compared to HF-SED with no difference between CON-EX and CON-SED.
