From: Regulation of Cholesterol Homeostasis by a Novel Long Non-coding RNA LASER

Schematic representation of a working model by which LASER regulates cholesterol metabolism. Chromosome 11q12 encodes a novel non-coding RNA-LASER that is involved in lipid metabolism. LASER binds to LSD1 protein in REST/coREST complex and regulate LSD1-mediated H3K4me demethylation in HNF-1α gene promoter and subsequently regulate PCSK9 expression and cholesterol metabolism in hepatocytes. Statin inhibits cholesterol synthesis but increases LASER expression by LXR receptors. Our study revealed a cholesterol-mediated negative feedback of LASER expression in hepatocytes.
