Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic tree of fungal and bacterial terpene synthases (TPSs). A total of 2443 TPSs from bacteria (Blue) and fungi (Green) was identified from the NCBI nr database. Three highlighted clades on the right are those with strong support in which fungal TPSs were embedded within bacterial TPSs (I and II) or vice versa (III). Bootstrap values are displayed next to the nodes, with values over 50% shown. Protein accession numbers and full species/strain names are shown as tips. Names of the 9 BTPSL genes in clade 1 are shown in red and in parentheses.
