Richness and diversity of microbial communities within rhizocompartments. Richness was estimated by the Chao1 (a), and diversity was represented by Shannon’s index (b) and Faith’s PD (c). Sequence reads of bulk soil and rhizosphere samples were rarefied to 20,000 and those of endosphere samples to 4,000. The box plots exhibit the range of variation in the median values (black lines in the middle), and the dots depict the outliers.
