(Top) An overhead view of simulated skyrmion configurations for dGd-Co < 0 and dGd-Co > 0. (Bottom) For dGd-Co < 0, the skyrmion wall is turning counter-clockwise. The d(FM) vector is pointing in the opposite direction of Si × Sj. EDMI (FM) = dij·(Si × Sj) is negative, which is favorable. For dGd-Co > 0, the skyrmion wall is turning clockwise. The d(FM) vector and Si × Sj are pointing in the same direction, resulting in positive EDMI (FM). Identical signs of the DMI energy are also found in the Gd sublattice.
