From: Extensive Soot Compaction by Cloud Processing from Laboratory and Field Observations

Scanning electron microscopy micrographs of interstitial and residual soot particles collected from the Pi Chamber. Soot particles were collected on polycarbonate membranes and imaged at an accelerating voltage of 1 kV, an emission current of 10 μA, and a working distance of 4 mm: (a) interstitial soot particle of convexity 0.56 and roundness 0.24 (magnification of 90 kX), and (b) residual soot particle of convexity 0.84 and roundness 0.51 (magnification of 100 kX). The dark spots are pores in the membranes.
