Snapshots of the uniaxial to radial cholesteric transition analysed by LC PolScope imaging: Upon increasing droplet volume, the uniaxial cholesteric configuration of the director field (A) becomes energetically too expensive, and the cholesteric bands start gradually to bend (B–D) favouring planar anchoring until the onion-like radial cholesteric configuration is reached (E and F).
