São João river basin, geographic range of most golden lion tamarins, 80 km northeast of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Management units (MUs) are fragments of forest used by tamarins (i.e. below 500 m elevation) that are partially or completely isolated from other fragments of tamarin habitat.
