Applying a fat-signal fraction (FSF, %) threshold altered the interpreted effect of cold exposure on brown adipose tissue (BAT). Comparison of thermoneutral (red) and cold exposure (blue) mean FSF for muscle (MUS), BAT, and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT). Mean FSF for BAT were calculated using three threshold conditions: 0–100%, 40–100%, and 50–100%. The center line in each box indicates the mean, and the top and bottom of the box show the 95% bootstrapped confidence intervals for the mean (1000 samples). Wilcoxon signed rank tests were performed to compare thermoneutral and cold exposure conditions (n = 7): *P < 0.05.
