Effect of HIFU on the chondrocyte expression of catabolic, inflammatory, and anabolic markers dysregulated in OA as determined from mRNA (mean ± 95% confidence intervals; samples were measured as technical duplicates and averaged). The mRNA levels were not modified by HIFU (p > 0.05, Wilcoxon) suggesting that there are no major HIFU-induced adverse effects on the chondrocytes in the short-term.
