From: Biofilm-stimulated epithelium modulates the inflammatory responses in co-cultured immune cells
Timeline for growth of 3-, 7- and 10- species biofilms. Bacteria (1 × 107 CFU/ml in artificial saliva (AS)) were sequentially added to 8 mm glass coverslips or 13 mm Thermanox coverslips for biofilm culture. Biofilms were cultured under appropriate conditions for a total of 5–7 days depending on biofilm composition, with AS changes every 24 hours for a total of 4 consecutive days (red lines). Once mature, final day supernatants and biofilms were stored at −80 °C. Biofilms were revived in AS, 24 hours prior to experimental use. Image partially created using Biorender.
