Segregation order parameter \(\delta \) for the colonies with areas (a) \(A=0.690\,{\text{mm}}^{2}\) (day 2), (b) \(A=1.131\,{\text{mm}}^{2}\) (day 3) and (c) \(A=0.173{\text{mm}}^{2}\) (day 4). The segregation is calculated in terms of an area threshold \({\alpha }^{\ast }\) as a proxy for two cell types. Type A cells (\(\alpha < {\alpha }^{\ast }=200\ \mu \)m\({}^{2}\)) are segregated from the larger type B cells in (a,b). The results are inconclusive for c. The values of \(\delta \) obtained by re-sampling the data sets (bootstrap method) are shown alongside these results, see the legend in the inset.
