The expression of the STAT3 gene is reduced in children with bronchiolitis positive for RSV. Nasal wash samples were collected from infants up to 12 months of age who were admitted to the hospital with acute bronchiolitis. The presence of RSV was confirmed by real-time PCR. STAT3 gene expression was assessed by real-time PCR and compared with endogenous gene expression (unpaired t test, **p = 0.0078).
