Changes in the levels of mRNAs encoding the vesicular glutamergic transporter (VGLUT)1 (A), VGLUT2 (B), and the vesicular GABAergic transporter (VGAT) (C) in the prefrontal cortex, olfactory bulb, and temporal cortex after 4 or 8 weeks of DEP inhalation, compared to those of the control group (n = 5/group; *P < 0.05 on Mann–Whitney U-testing comparing the control and DEP groups). Changes in the numbers of vesicular glutamergic transporters (VGLUT)1 (green) (D); glutamate acid decarboxylase (GAD)67 molecules (green) (E); and neurocan (red)-positive cells in the temporal cortices of the 8-week DEP-exposed group. The numbers of VGLUT1- and GAD67-postive cells were higher in the 8-week DEP group than the control group (blue: DAPI).
