Heat map of gene expression changes from human and mouse microarray studies. (a) Similar response patterns in human and mouse. The heat map shows 181 homologous genes with similar responses in human and mouse blood after irradiation (doses as shown in Table 1). (b) Opposite responses in human and mouse. The heat map shows 73 homologous genes with opposite responses in human and mouse blood after radiation (doses as shown in Table 1). Genes selected for qRT-PCR studies in humanized NSG radiation studies are indicated. The key indicates the relative ratios between irradiated and sham-irradiated controls, shades of red for up-regulated genes and shades of green for down-regulated genes. Grey indicates no significant differential expression. A more detailed fully annotated view of these heat maps is shown in Supplementary Table S1.
