Comparative colony formation assays. In the standard assay (A) cells are grown in an incubator, irradiated, trypsinization, and then are re-plated. Whereas in the alternative assay, (B), the trypsinization and re-plating is done before irradiation. (C) Spatial differences in colony formation was evaluated by dividing the flask into center and wall regions containing 4 × 4 mm2 squares where colonies where counted and scored.
