From: A Boolean Model of Microvascular Rarefaction to Predict Treatment Outcomes in Renal Disease

Simulation of RVD with no therapeutic intervention: Simulation of RVD by chronically inactivating blood flow to the kidney results in activation of multiple factors involved in oxidative stress, inflammation, MV rarefaction, and fibrosis, all processes that contribute to the progression of renal function deterioration in vivo. Names of the factors are identified in the y axis and indicated in green when active and are depicted in gray when inactive. Numbers on the x axis depict the arbitrary timepoints or “cycles” run by the simulation. The first column depicts the initial steady state condition at which time the simulation has been initiated but has not yet produced changes.
