Figure 2

The effects of the PoV mycovirus on fruiting body formation in P. ostreatus. (A) The morphological characteristics of fruiting bodies of a virus-infected strain (POV) and two virus-cured strains (POVF10 and POVF12) cultivated on sawdust were observed. These were fruiting bodies from the second flush stage. (B) The fruiting body yield of each P. ostreatus strain was measured to determine the biological efficiency (BE; %) of fruiting bodies from the POV, POVF10, and POVF12 strains. BE was calculated as the ratio of fresh weight of harvested mushrooms to substrate dry weight. BE was compared between strains using Duncan’s multiple range test. A value of p < 0.05 denotes statistical significance. The black bar indicates analyses of the POV strain. The other two bars indicate analyses of the virus-cured POVF10 and POVF12 strains.
