Identity of mutants with all eight transmembrane Trps replaced. Identity of amino acid substitutions found at each of the 8 transmembrane Trp positions in the 19 most active mutant combinations. Apparent trends and patterns were color coded by side chain classification according to the Zappo scheme116. “Mutant B” was named W(3Cyto), and was chosen for further studies.
