The variability of \(\tilde{\sigma }\), the amount of sea-level rise that doubles the odds of exceeding the present-day 50-year water-level event according to Eq. (5) in Methods. Panel A shows the spatial variability of \(\tilde{\sigma }\) at the tide stations used in the present study, and Panel B shows the histogram of \(\tilde{\sigma }\) for all stations. The different colors (i.e., red, yellow, green, or blue) of the histogram in panel B depict the K-means cluster associated with the distinct groups of tide station as shown in Fig. 1.
