Elevated oxidative phosphorylation gene expression in tumors is not due to muscle contamination. The ssGSEA muscle scores for tumors in each cluster were compared to each other and to adjacent normal for (A) OCSCC and (B) LUSC. Although muscle contamination was present in some tumors and in normal oral samples, no significant differences were found between tumors in clusters 1, 2, and 3 in either OCSCC (A) or LUSC (B).
