Longer Simulation runs showing the clustering process. Snapshots of a target heated at T = 3500 °C in 60 ps. A constant temperature is imposed for additional 320 ps. Images are produced at regular time intervals of 20 ps. At 80 ps some clusters are already formed; these clusters are used to compute the cluster diameter to compare with the experimental data. At 180 ps the clusters reach the cold zone and become aggregation points for even larger clusters. In the simulations with the lower temperature, the cold zone is reached at later times.
