The black dashed and black solid lines represent the mean (\(\mu\)) and ten times the standard deviation \(\sigma\) from the mean (i.e. \(\mu +10\sigma\)) respectively. Note that the predator population \(w_i\) in the most patches, as well as the spatial average of w at an instant of time, is so low that it is barely visible in the figures.
