The total number of times each participant was copied (i.e. their ‘prestige’) across all conditions, clustered by group as indicated by different colours. The dashed lines demarcate the experimental conditions, Prestige, Control and Success from left to right. Groups 1–10 were in the Prestige Condition, 11–20 were in the Control, and 21–30 were in the Success Condition. The majority of participants were never copied, or were copied under 10 times. A minority of participants were copied 20–40 times, and just 5 participants were copied over 40 times.
