Schematics of the proposed setup and the application configuration. (a) A moderately high-intensity laser pulse creates a plasma cavity free of electrons (bubble). An electron bunch is injected in the rear part of the bubble, along with a weaker modulation pulse, with a delay that is such that it propagates with the electron bunch.
