Occurrence of needles during the upward leader propagation. The letter “Y” in the beginning of each line corresponds to time when the corona brush split (and the branching failed). Each subsequent triangle on the line indicates pulses of the corresponding needle. The gray angled lines show the apparent temporal sequencing that may be occurring.
