Endocytoscopic appearance of the normal duodenal mucosa. Pictures obtained using the maximum magnification power of the ECS (×500). (a) Normal duodenal villi 1 min after staining with methylene blue. Cells show a regular arrangement in each villus with sparse goblet cells. (b) Approximately 10 min later, goblet cells have become inconspicuous, and spindle-shaped nuclei have become evident.
