Figure 4

Results of the analysis of the core–shell structure with HR-TEM. (a) Determination of the crystal structure based on the analysis of the HR-TEM images of individual CdSe/CdS particles (shown in panels (a.1) and (a.3)) and the resulting Fourier transformations (FTs), shown in panels (a.2) and (a.4), respectively, superimposed with the corresponding simulated diffraction pattern. The software jems62 was used for the simulation of the diffraction patterns. (b) Geometric phase analysis (GPA) of a HR-TEM net plane image (b.1), where the analyzed area is marked in red and the reference region is marked in green; the results of the GPA (b.2) reveal a maximum misfit of 2.7% in the core region. (c) HR-TEM procedure used for determining the overall particle size, core size, and shell thickness: Defocused HR-TEM image revealing the core within the core/shell nanoparticle structures (c.1); Marked core areas (blue) and marked shell areas (red) used for data evaluation with the Bruker software (c.2).
