Selection of medical records for study. Selection of medical records was performed independently at three academic hospitals of the University of California. Each site uniformly sampled 150 COVID-19 positive (+) and 150 COVID-19 negative (−) patients. Among these, 861 medical records were retained for downstream analyses.
