Design of a volumetric display system based on DSS. (a) A femtosecond-laser-excited emission point is spatially scanned in an aperture on the bottom parabolic mirror by a beam scanning system and enhanced by a CGH on an LCOS-SLM. A half-wave plate (HWP) and a polarization beamsplitter (PBS) are used to control pulse energy of the femtosecond laser. The photograph of the actual system is shown in the Supplementary Fig. 2. (b) The emission point is generated as a voxel in the viewing space by the re-projection system, and its emission brightness is enhanced by the introduction of a glass cell filled with Xe gas.
