Cone frustum approximation of the talar trochlea surfaces, and comparison of the mean apical angles among humans, great apes, and macaques. The error bars indicate standard deviations. If the whole surface was approximated, the apical angle in gorillas was calculated to be negative, an indication that the apex was located on the lateral side of the talus. However, if only the conical portion was used for approximation, the apical angle was calculated to be positive like in other species. The asterisk indicates that there was a significant difference in the mean of the apical angle (P < 0.005).
