Enhancer-associated CpG dinucleotides and enhancer activity. By luciferase reporter assay, luciferase activity was increased by the presence of wild-type MYBPHL enhancer DNA, as compared with empty vector control. By site-directed mutagenesis of individual CpG into ApG, luciferase activity was significantly reduced, as compared with that of wild-type (***P ≤ 0.001). Data were mean ± s.d. of firefly/renilla from three independent experiments with triplicate in each.
