Experimental designs to determine the influence of vagotomy and SID on the course of peritonitis after CASP. C57BL/6 N mice underwent subdiaphragmatic vagotomy (VGX) or laparotomy (sham). After a recovery period of 6 days either Surgically induced Immune Dysfunction (SID) or another laparotomy (sham) was performed. 3 days later mice underwent 18G CASP. Survival of mice was controlled at least twice per day for the following 30 days or organs were harvested 24 h after CASP for analysis of immune parameters.
