Conversion of L-glutamine to L-glutamic acid and expression of GLS1 in vitro. (a) Ratio L-glutamine/glutamic acid was determined by using the individual metabolite abundances in the transformed cell line samples; (b) Expression of GLS1, encoding glutaminase was assessed in the HCT116, HT29 and SW480 cell line by means of qPCR and expressed as log2 fold change relative to the HT29 cell line. Cell lines assigned with different letters are statistically (P value  < 0.05) different from each other. Error bars represent standard deviations (n = 3).
