The dotted horizontal line marks the level of no difference between pandemic and pre-pandemic ratings. Positive values indicate faster pandemic PPT/higher pandemic boredom compared to the pre-pandemic ratings. (b) Mean valence ratings (left y-axis) and mean PHQ scores (right y-axis) during the pandemic are displayed as a function of measurement point. Note that higher PHQ scores (purple diamond) indicate more depressive symptoms. Higher valence ratings (orange circles) indicate a positive emotional state, while lower values represent a negative emotional state. A value of 3 indicates a “neutral” state. The main study included measurement points 1–10 (gray background). The follow-up study included the measurement points 11 and 12 (white background). Error bars show 95% confidence intervals of the mean.
