HYPERLINK "sps:id::fig1||locator::gr1||MediaObject::0" Fixel metrics. Diagrammatic illustrations for all fixel metrics investigated are shown. Starting from a healthy fibre bundle differing structural changes can appear that are reflected by specific metrics. A loss in intraaxonal volume in a voxel is indicated by a reduction in fibre density. A reduced fibre-bundle cross-section reflects macrostructural—i.e., above voxel level—tract diameter changes in the plane orthogonal to the fixel surveyed. Fibre density and cross-section represents the product of FD and FC and is thus sensitive to combined structural changes.
