The age-depth model is based on tie-points (blue dots) with the total solar irradiance (TSI)44 (Supplementary Fig. 2). The 14C ages are plotted for comparison. The modern hard-water effect (ΔHW) is the difference between the year of coring in 2017 and the 14C age of a modern water plant (yellow). ΔHW-corrected bulk TOC 14C ages and compound-class n-alkane 14C ages are shown in red and green, respectively (Supplementary Table 1).
