LS occurs during fasting in TXNIP-KO mice. LS during the fasted state in TXNIP-KO mice was verified by H&E, Oil Red O and PAS staining. Prominent hepatic microvesicular steatosis with enlarged nuclei (arrows) was observed in livers of TXNIP-KO mice in the fasted state by H&E staining, and accumulation of lipid droplets was detected by Oil Red O staining (scale bar = 50 μm). PAS staining showed depletion of glycogen in livers of fasted TXNIP-KO mice: depletion of glycogen was found even in the fed state.
