Citations of publications versus tie strength. In this figure, we present a more detailed analysis of the relationship from Fig. 5b. To this aim, all publications available in the analysed database are divided into groups according to the year of publication and the number of authors (see the colour map in the figure). Given homogeneous sample of publications thus established, we found that the number of their citations always decreases with increasing average asymmetric tie strength between their authors. To clarify, the average tie strength was determined at the time of paper’s publication, and the number of citations refers to the time of the last update of the analysed database.
