Figure 6

In vivo biodistribution and localization of Au-NPs at different doses (High & Low) in rat liver tissues. The Au-NPs were clearly visible in the cytoplasm and nucleus of liver tissue cells, especially in the sinusoidal macrophages (Kupffer cells) indicating that the macrophages were central in the elimination process of Au-NPs from the body (yellow arrows). (i) Blue: Hoechst 33342-stained nuclei. (ii) Red: Gold NPs. (iii) Merged Image from Gold NPs and Nuclei. (iv) DIC mode merged with Gold NPs (v) DIC mode merged with Gold NPs and nuclei. λmax = 505 nm (Hoechst 33342), 555 nm (red autofluorescence from gold NPs), 473 nm (Differential interference contrast [DIC]). (Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope × 63, Scale bar: 25 μm, Scan Mode = XYZ Unidirectional X, Scan Speed = 400 Hz, Pinhole Diameter = 137.1 μm).
